Add Soccer Fields at Pershing Field
Pershing Field is a popular spot for local families, but there’s a growing demand for soccer fields that isn’t being met. Both kids and adults are missing out on opportunities to play this healthy, popular sport. That’s why we are calling for two soccer fields to be added in Pershing Field using existing space that is currently underutilized. Add your name now!
Jersey City is growing, and our current sports facilities are strained by youth soccer leagues, adult teams, and spontaneous pick-up games. We shouldn’t have to go to other towns to play soccer or use unmarked, unsafe spaces. Plus, Pershing Field has the space to spare that would not disrupt the other sports activities in the park— now we just need to designate it for soccer. With the World Cup coming to New Jersey next year, this is the perfect time to make it happen.
The benefits of adding soccer fields to Pershing Field include:
- Youth Engagement: Soccer is affordable and accessible, keeping kids and teens involved in positive, team-based activities. The new fields would give local schools and organizations space for practices, matches, and leagues.
- Health and Wellness: More fields mean more opportunities for residents to stay active, improving both physical and mental health.
- Community Building: Soccer brings people together. Whether it’s casual pick-up games, organized leagues, or community events, dedicated soccer fields will create a welcoming space for everyone.
- City Recognition: Investing in this project will reinforce Jersey City’s reputation as a leader in public health, outdoor recreation, and community-building.
