Pamela Johnson is a community activist and anti-violence advocate in Jersey City, New Jersey. Pamela received her master’s degree in public administration from Saint Peter’s University where she also received her bachelor’s degree in social sciences graduating Cum Laude. As a lifelong resident of Jersey City, her parents raised her to know the struggles of others and to be an advocate to those who need it the most. She believes strongly in investing in people and leading a progressive movement that focuses on moving communities forward, one family at a time. “It’s about standing together to do better for the entire community.” This is a motto for every facet of her life. She believes in it and lives by it.
Pamela has spent her career deeply committed to improving the quality of life throughout Jersey City and Hudson County while serving our most vulnerable communities. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Anti-Violence Coalition of Hudson County which is a NJ non-profit focused on addressing the needs of public safety through programs and initiatives that focus on community-based violence prevention, intervention, and treatment. We are devoted to empowering residents and building a peaceful community, which improves the quality of life for everyone. She is also the Co-Founder of the Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Movement which is a community group which empowers residents to work together to eradicate violence and improve their standard of living.
She is a member of diverse organizations and boards including Sigma Phi Lambda National Honor Society, Team Wilderness Board of Directors and eCode NJ Board of Directors. Pamela is the former head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Jersey City where she was also educated as a child. She also spent several years volunteering as a boys’ basketball coach for the Jersey City Police Athletic League. Pamela has received many certificates, citations, proclamations, awards, resolutions and recognition for her advocacy, activism and leadership including the Endurance Award for Victims Justice from the NJ Attorney General’s Office, Coretta Scott King Humanitarian Award from the County of Hudson County, Woman of Action Award from the City of Jersey City, Shirley Chisholm Award from Black Women Rocking, Shero Award from Greater Neighborhood Alliance and the Heroine Award from Abounding Women Community Outreach, Inc.
Pamela is proud of her accomplishments, and she thanks her parents who raised her to believe in herself and others. She also thanks her Southside upbringing because she learned that the village is the gatekeeper of family and community success. She is a true leader who can sit in any room and advocate for the people.
